TOWER PROJECTION MAPPING

City of Culture Bid – Stirling Council

Ode to Stirling, the centrepiece of the city’s culture bid submission celebrations was projected onto the National Wallace Monument in February 2022.  An immersive light show featuring spectacular moving imagery overlaid with verse created by the local community, brought the Wallace Monument to life.

The digital showcase marked the official submission of Stirling’s bid to become UK City of Culture 2025.  Stirling was the last remaining city in Scotland in the race for the acclaimed title.

HOW WE DID IT

Community Project

The community project started with the people of Stirling being invited to send in their twenty-five words for 2025. Over one hundred entrants from the area embraced the creative challenge, putting into words what culture means to them. Stirling Makar Laura Fyfe wove the words together to craft a poem reflecting the passions and desires of the people of Stirling across many age groups. The final result was an inspiring and uplifting poem illustrating the diversity and energy of Stirling.  The affection and pride people feel for their communities and the local area shone through.

Projecting the Thoughts and Hopes of Stirling’s People

Stirling’s bid to be City of Culture 2025 was based around the enthusiasm for culture that flows through the community. We delivered our project and projection at a key stage in the competition.  Stirling Council wanted to convey the message that they are ready to deliver real social change for all of Stirling with a cultural programme making the arts open to all and creating a meaningful legacy for the city and beyond.

Our design team created an immersive light show with our bespoke graphics and the words of the poem created by Laura Fyfe.  We projected the spectacular images onto the iconic National Wallace Monument.   Media groups were invited along to the event to share the story of how the people of Stirling came together to create a collective poem.

“Projecting the thoughts and hopes of Stirling’s people onto one Scotland’s national treasures is a powerful, visible statement that Stirling is ready to seize this exciting opportunity for the whole nation.” Stirling Council Leader Scott Farmer
