PROJECTION MAPPING STAGE

Celtic Connections 25th Anniversary Concert

We celebrated with Celtic Connections at their spectacular 25th Anniversary gig by lighting the projection mapping stage with stunning scenery of Skye providing a backdrop to Danny MacAskill’s famous ‘The Ridge’ film in a stage show form. The scene was set by our landscape skyline which was architecturally projected as a background for the spectacular Grit Orchestra. Music, mountain biking and projection mapping married to dazzle the audience in the 14,300-arena as well as across the UK as it broadcast on the BBC.

Celtic Connections’ Biggest Show

We were commissioned to project onto the landscape shaped set, which was designed closely with Danny MacAskill to recreate scenes from his film ‘The Ridge’. The film launched Danny to fame in 2014. Danny MacAskill and Vision Ramp constructed the set for Celtic Connections’ most significant show to date at The SSE Hydro.

Celtic Connections has gained a remarkable following and outstanding reputation within the music industry. The festival attracts audiences worldwide. A 15,000 strong audience attended the gig, gaining massive traction on social media and in the press over the following days. The event reached tens of thousands of BBC viewers when it aired on BBC2 the next week.

Inaccessible Pinnacle

The projection mapping stage sceneries were combined from a series of images and time-lapse footage shot on the Isle of Skye. Locations that feature in the film such as ‘Sligachan’, ‘The Quiraing’ and the climactic ‘Inaccessible Pinnacle’ were successfully re-imagined to resemble the film. Danny MacAskill – who hails from the Isle of Skye – helped design the set and gave the final thumbs up to the landscape textures.

Double Take Projections worked with a fantastic production team, including War Productions, to set up a base within the Hydro from which to project. We used 3 x 30,000-lumen projectors to beam the stunning Skye landscapes onto the set.

Massive Focal Point of the Show

“We were extremely pleased with the way Double Take transformed our stage design into the Skye Mountains. The Double Take team were good fun to work with, and the final result was a massive focal point of the show.”

John Bailey, Director of Vision Ramps
