MURAL PROJECTION MAPPING

Tontine Lane – Graffiti Projections

Double Take Projections used Projection Mapping to transform a derelict façade into a giant projection graffiti wall, with stunning results. Glasgow’s Tontine Lane was converted into a pop-up market and Belgian themed bar which ran for 2 weeks in conjunction with a host of lively music performances and a variety of art installations.  The lane is a series of interconnected cobbled streets situated in the heart of Glasgow’s Merchant City. Our projection canvas was the 5-storey façade of an 18th Century Hotel, most recently used as offices for The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games organising committee.

Timelapse Graffiti

Double Take Projections’ creative team documented Conzo creating his Belgian themed art piece. We then edited and condensed the footage into a 13-minute time-lapse that slowly altered as we projected it above the iconic Tontine garage, creating a dramatic entrance to the experience. Two Panasonic 16,000 lumen projectors were edge-blended so the screen size covered the full front of the building. The equipment was rigged in a building opposite and set on a timer to be in situ for two full weeks.

As part of the wider Merchant City Festival, the projections helped to promote and draw a crowd to the pop-up bar. A number of videos of the projections trended locally on Facebook gaining 8,000+ views. The projection helped to attract thousands over the course of the two-week event, drawing attention to a part of Glasgow many did not know existed.
