Edinburgh’s Hogmanay 2018 festival kicked off with the family favourite Torchlight Procession. This memorable spectacle sees tens of thousands of people walk through the streets of Edinburgh carrying torches, making their way down the Royal Mile towards Holyrood Park, passing Scottish Parliament and the Palace of Holyrood House for the fireworks finale.
The finale point saw us project the symbolic Scottish social media hashtags and quotes that the tens of thousands of walkers were directed to use.
17,000 torchbearers, accompanied by friends and family and led by the Up Helly Aa Vikings from Shetland, alongside youth pipe bands, brass bands and samba bands full of talented young performers to create a river of light through Edinburgh’s Old Town in a new route past Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament - when they passed the parliament, they were greeted by the giant hashtags projected onto the Crags.
These projections were a successful promotional tool that was vital in gaining maximum exposure across social media as well as maintaining a consistent presence across all channels.
We used 2 x 20,000 lumen projectors to beam the hashtags onto the Crags from our base at the Scottish Parliament.
