Proud to serve for 165 years and counting, to celebrate our historic and ongoing relationship with the west coast of Scotland this beautiful film has been created. The Your West Coast music video features both old and new footage being projected onto iconic locations across the west coast. The sound track to the video was written and performed by traditional Scottish highland music band Skipinnish.
The idea of the project was to create imagery that pulled at heartstrings and evoked nostalgia for the island. We wanted to ask what Scotland's west coast mean to you? Stunning scenery, beautiful beaches, a culture of live music and thriving festivals or amazing wildlife? The video has been viewed 900,000 times across different platforms featuring in local and national press.
The three-and-a-half minutes long video incorporates imagery from the 1944 David MacBrayne film Islands of Youth and other new CalMac footage, physically projected onto the west coast landscape. It highlights both a modern sea change for the iconic Scottish ferry company, as well as the reassuring and enduring stability born of 165 years’ service.
We spent 2 weeks using a variety of different projector set ups. The content was recorded over a 2 hour period using time-lapse photography.
